“[A]lmost two-thirds of votes in federal court First Amendment cases in the book’s data set were cast by Democratic judges, whereas only about one-third in the remaining federal decisions were. This temporal happenstance of positioning of Democrats on the federal bench is the principal reason why free speech and association claims by gay people were decided the most favorably of any subject matter category.” (Page 63)
